The GARD[En]semble consists of three components: the RainCRATE, ComostCRATE, and GardenCRATE. Each component is fabricated from reclaimed white oak from an 1840's farm house that is being deconstructed by Ohio Restoration and Preservation Society, Cedar, and Corrugated Galvanized Steel. The RainCRATE is a rain harvesting system that collects and stores up to 55 gallons of water in a plastic drum. The drum is housed inside the CRATE to raise it off the ground for easier access to the water as well as to provide and aesthetically pleasing container for the otherwise drab plastic barrel. The GardenCRATE provides the benefit of controlled soil composition, better drainage, warmer soil, and greater accessibility for a more successful gardening experience. The CompostCRATE provides a place for yard waste to decompose to supplement the soil in the GardenCRATE in future years.
