Terrassen-Haus is a multi-family apartment building that looks and feels like a town house. Each apartment has a unique layout with interlocking spaces, providing multiple living areas, privacy, and individual generous access to gardens or terraces for each unit. Extensive light studies in the early design process informed the dimensions and locations of windows, skylights, light wells, and terraces, which optimized daylight for each resident. The rural demands informed the roof line and integrates the building in its urban context, while the cantilevered parking cover highlights the structural asymmetry and turns the building into haptic sculpted form. The open staircases give the interiors a generous feeling and make the multi-levels flow softly into each other.
