When it came to settling this project’s concept, we thought about the essence of ophthalmology. "Ophthalmology" is a place to easily get your eyes treated with symptoms like blurred or unclear vision. We decided to focus on the "eye," and create the space through the concept of “Mimong.” Originally, Mimong(迷夢) means “a blurry and dazed mental state,” but we changed the characters to Mimong(美朦), which also changes the meaning into "beauty of finding clarity from blurriness."
We tried to express Mimong through “light and color: elements that can only be felt through eyes (visual senses)”. For this, we focused on setting the space and selecting finishing material. Upon entering for the first time, a long scenery unfolds before you through the front window, with light shining in that changes every moment. For more dramatic look, stainless steel frames are created to expand the field of view. Long tables set across the waiting area are yellow transparent acryl, creating a room that changes with light. The lateral thickening window frames and the table legs create an optical illusion within the waiting room of Mimong.
Upon turning back, you will encounter yellow and red colors inside a curved wall. The concept of a curved wall came from the shape of an eyeball. This structure makes possible to capture the entire space at a glance. Also, with spatiality created using colors, space in need can be recognized easily. The doctor’s office uses red, the most instinctive color, while the operating room uses yellow, which intuitively reminds us the word "smile," in the operating room. (The hospital’s name "Smile" is also the name of the LASIK surgical machine.) In the doctor’s office, the red color can change visibility using smart glass. It can change transparency from blurry to clear, which creates an aesthetic scene and reminds people the nature of the space once again.
