AIA New York Project Honor Award WinnerJSA and H Associates teamed up to propose a scheme for rehabilitating Gangbuk Park, an isolated and derelict park located in a working-class district of Seoul. The scheme joins this green oasis with the heart of the city and with the surrounding communities. The main entrance of the park terminates a major urban boulevard that leads visitors entering the park from downtown Seoul to a series of themed terraced landscapes joined by a continuous ramp. Along the perimeter of the park, miniparks form a series of secondary gateways that link local neighborhoods with a network of trails.Visitors to the park are free to invent personalized park routes: they can choose to follow one of three programmed trail types ? Learn, Play and Relax ? or shuffle categories to script a variety of experiences tailored to their own temperaments and moods. The extensive network of trails converge to form three cultural bridges that emerge from the natural contours of the earth and encourage people to cross the valley and filter into the surrounding urban fabric. For more images and information, see www.joelsandersarchitect.com/jsa.html />
