Upon approaching the realization of the project, we needed to remark that the considered area is a surface of approx. 7500 sqm, which shows all the typical main features of the region: very hot climate with temperatures capable of reaching 45°C, a strong N/E wind and only two seasons during the year, respectively an arid and a rainy semester.
Taking into account the peculiar territorial and climatic issues, it has been chosen to have the building established in such a position, so that it may benefit from the shadows of the trees nearby and, at the same time, to be protected from the wind, by means of a wall realized partially by bricks and by a stake-structure.
The building is raised 30 cm from the ground level by a concrete basis, while the surrounding area hemmed in by the trees has to be considered land-surface level, in order to preserve a tight contact with the environment.
Moreover, following some recent studies in child psychology, we are able to affirm that the “curve” is, from a pedagogic point of view, a pattern evoking protection and harmony, as it resembles a motherly hug. For this reason, we decided to take it as one of the main focuses of our project.
The work is based on the distribution of several rooms shaped in different curvilinear patterns and dimensions, based on the function to be carried out:
- five classrooms
a library
- seven rooms for accommodation
- a cafeteria
- poly-functional space
restrooms
- cistern
