GALERIE NEU
Hidden inside the backyard of a GDR-era housing block, a detached volume that was formerly a heating station hosts the new NEU Gallery.
CAMOUFLAGE
The architectural concept aims to maintain the Plattenbau character of the surrounding blocks. The one-story building is disguised within this context:
the entrance has no sign but is marked by three large new doors, which underline the function of the space.
READYMADE
Inside, the subtle architectural intervention analyzes and modifies the existing structure and gives it a new aura, turning the heating station into a readymade. The exhibition space is separated from the entrance hall through a wall that, like a new façade, is perforated by door- and window-like apertures. The space is reimagined as a big seeing machine that allows new perceptions of the art shows.
