Christian Nagel moved
his galllery from Cologne to a new space in Berlin in 2001. The buildings on
Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, erected in the late 1920’s by Hans Poelzig, were at that
very time undergoing renovation work, principally to reactivate ground floors
that had been converted into housing under the DDR. In cooperation with the
artist Cosima von Bonin, the gallery was developed for a “showcase” presentation scenario oriented to the street. In the office and
conference room, a wall clad in white fabric forms a subtle contrast to the
stricter aesthetic of the exhibition space, while the resultant acoustic
dampening lends these areas an unexpected intimacy.
