The airport complex in Saratov is one of the first airports in modern Russia, built from scratch. A large team of specialists worked on the project. The tasks of our bureau included creating the general concept of the complex, architectural and interior solutions. The general tone for the entire design was set by the name of the airport - Gagarin. It was in Saratov that Yuri Gagarin studied and then landed after his first space flight.
The interior spaces of the terminal reflect the light and snow-white image of the dream of space. The key accent of the interior is the floating objects (they are also the fish from the city’s coat of arms), which serve as general illumination. Auxiliary elements of the interior (duty-free pavilions, recreation areas, etc.) support the cosmic atmosphere.
An integral part of the interior was a series of interactive installations telling the history of Russian cosmonautics and turning the airport building into a full-fledged public space.
