This hotel was designed on two separate properties, one with existing buildings and the other a vacant lot with some archeological remains that had to be incorporated into the design.
Due to the protected status of the old colonial town of Antigua, second floors can't be built, however the solution for more space was found by creating a "sunken garden" around which basement rooms, spa, a a lap pool are located.
Although the language of the building has to be colonial, we wanted to incorporate more modern elements and materials that could contrast nicely with the old stone and hand-made clay tiles.
