"Fusionner" comes from the French word meaning "to merge." Architecture merges in the urban city just like renovations merge into the interior of the space. Everything happens without imposing upon a place. To emphasize the importance of interior spaces and the activities that take place indoors, an architectural concept of space must evolve smoothly.
Kotaro Horiuchi Architecture presents "Holes of Droplets Floating." This project consists of an interactive social space that allows one to dive, appear above the surface, or disappear. What is visible can vanish, and a new landscape takes place.
Two huge floating membranes divide the space into three vertical zones. The holes in the membranes are intended to obscure borders. The light passes through the swaying membranes, projecting the shade of light to another membrane, and providing a constantly dappled effect. Installing the membranes at an angle enabled us to create holes of different heights. Users can move from hole to hole to encounter new people or objects, or gather in one hole or stand in yet another one. It is a space that enables people to communicate.
