In today’s society, connectivity and urgency are very valued. Professionals in Manhattan’s Upper Midtown need to commute fast and they prefer transportation that matches their lifestyle.
The neighborhood has been culturally revived though a new Lincoln Center but it is still far away from many New York’s points of interest (Financial District, NJ, Brooklyn, beaches, Upstate New York, etc.)
The terminal is a fusion of transit and leisure. It creates a sustainable and faster commuting option (cuts the time in half) for professionals and a year-long attraction for the neighborhood.
Redesign the existing car infrastructure to free the top area of the Boat Basin Café from the car traffic in order create a park entrance inviting for pedestrians and cyclists. Multiple programs for constant visitors’ engagement.
The green roof is a parametrically designed canopy that blends with the park’ setting and serves the building’s sustainable features (water retaining system and seasonal shading device).
