This unique mansion was built between 1926/28 and is located in a very
busy suburb of São Paulo, between high rise commercial buildings and all
main hospitals of the city.
It is rare to find a historic building in such good condition, with just
few modifications, the only real need was to renovate its electric and
hydraulic fixtures, that have never been updated for 80 years, most of
it wasn't actually working.
The project aimed the restoration and redevelopment of the existing
building adapting it to a new commercial use as a Funeral Home.
All the existing amenities had to be renovated for commercial use, that
was the only exception made by the heritage department of the council.
A lift had to be design to provide not only disable access the superior
level, but also for the coffins. Its location had to be chosen without
interfering in the main façade and also had to use material as light as
possible, but modern, to contrast but not block the historical
architecture.
The levels of illumination inside the mansion were very low and the
ceilings were beautifully design and, of course, heritage protected. To
provide more light the concept was to keep the existing lighting
fixtures and add indirect light using spots fixed in tracks on the walls, also highliting the historical ceiling.
A cafe bistro was also designed outside the house, in the garden area
and the garage was adapted and transformed in an Embalming / Grooming
room.
The whole project required a detailed survey and comparison with the
original drawings and photos from different moments trough history.
The current owner of the house is actually son of the original owner and
his help providing all documents and information was crucial for the
best result.
