A RESIDENCE WITH RIVER
The House of Rivers is a collection of memorabilia of its residents. The land of rivers, Bangladesh, is sprawled with an intricate network of rivers all through the land. It flows on connecting lives as it runs through the land. At the end of its running course it merges with the sea. Drawing inspiration from this, FRS single family residence was designed. Like the endless streams of river merges with the sea, the streams of daily life merges to become part of a place, home.
The architect believes that one's living is the reflection of oneself and thus the Principal architect and his team was inspired to determine a way of relating the client's identity behind the theme of the project. Thus the inspiration came from his name which is the Bangla synonym for SEA. To portray that in an ethnic approach 100 names of flowing rivers of Bangladesh is sculpted on different facades of the building. The names of the rivers on the skin of the building became a part of its identity. At the same time it has created a level of curiosity; engaged the onlookers and passersby with the architecture without any physical intrusion to the client's personal space. The aim was to give rise to a nostalgic feeling that associates one to so many known and unknown rivers that once crisscrossed across the country which is the part of the history of this land.
The design itself ensures a strong bondage among the family members. This has been achieved by enhancing visual connectivity among individual spaces. Emphasis was given in designing common spaces with the objective that it would encourage common family time and association. Rooms of this private residence have been designed in a way that reflects the relationship between the family members. Connectivity among them is ensured while keeping their own personal spaces uninterrupted.
