The entire family of Steven loves to travel around the world, so they have a free-spirited nature. Taking this characteristic into account, we developed their new home with the design concept of free curves.
The design of this residential space is inspired by free curves. We utilize curves to traverse all the spaces, resetting the layout from the entrance, extending through the living room TV wall, desk, bookshelf, dining cabinet, central island table, and finally reaching the master bedroom.
In terms of layout configuration, the main spaces include the entrance, living room, study, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom, two guest bedrooms, and a guest bathroom.
In terms of material usage, we incorporate marble as the main material for the TV feature wall. Here, we take on a bold challenge with the processing of a double-curved marble wall, which greatly tests the design and construction techniques. The TV cabinet follows the curvature of the wall, creating a smooth and perfect arc. For the metal strip element, we use titanium-plated metal panels to form a double-curved shape, following the contour of the wall.
For the ceiling, we design a multi-angled 3D arc-shaped ceiling to solve the problem of low beams. In the case of pillars, we also apply this method to reduce their presence and oppressive feeling.
In terms of flow and circulation, we abandon traditional square layouts and straight-line approaches, allowing for a smoother flow and creating a sense of fluidity as one moves through the interior space, like water flowing through clouds.
While utilizing curves extensively in the interior space design, the design vocabulary remains balanced without being overly loud, allowing for a smooth flow in the space.
White is the primary color used to create a sense of purity in the space. White lacquer is used as the main color for cabinets and walls, complemented by white carved marble with a white base as the centerpiece of the space.
The streamlined white central island dining table features an irregular shape that echoes the design elements. The cabinet body is made of engineered stone, and the tabletop uses white veined quartz stone. Titanium-plated metal is embedded between the two, serving as an edging to enhance the texture. The built-in induction hob makes it convenient for winter hot pot meals or heating food.
The dining cabinet next to the hallway is designed with a curved shape along the wall. The dining cabinet near the kitchen features a white lacquer finish with a white veined quartz stone countertop. Additionally, hexagonal white stone mosaic tiles are specially chosen and embedded with metal along the edges, enhancing the overall texture and complementing the space's elements.
The master bedroom space features clean and simple lines, primarily using a light grayish-white color. The ceiling design, resembling rolled paper, echoes the design spirit of the external space. The headboard cabinet is primarily made of lacquer, complemented by curved engineered stone as the countertop. Passing through the titanium-plated metal door frame symbolizes entering another space. The dressing room is predominantly white, with white door frames combined with transparent glass and gray fabric-textured cabinets, creating a bright and fashionable atmosphere, reminiscent of stepping into a boutique. The sensor-activated lighting allows the homeowner to clearly see the contents and facilitates clothing selection. Carefully selected accessories enhance convenience, and the drawer handles are wrapped in leather, adding to the overall texture.
The floor material uses large-sized whitewashed wood flooring, responding to the overall color scheme of the space.
Entering the master ensuite bathroom, the walls feature large-sized quartz tiles with a landscape pattern, presenting a majestic atmosphere. The floor is made of light gray quartz tiles, and the bathtub and basin countertop are both presented in white quartz stone. The combination of gray and white colors achieves a modern and spirited feel. The bathroom mirror is designed as a track system and can be moved to the side, with a large window behind it.
In the first part of the second bedroom, a desk, sleeping area, and a dressing room created through space segmentation are planned. The bedside cabinets are primarily gray, complemented by a gentleman blue accent. The wardrobe follows the same color scheme, while the walls are painted in light gray. The floor uses large-sized gray-blue tiles. The dressing room sliding door features a black door frame, creating a personalized and suitable space for young men.
In the second part of the second bedroom, a sleeping area, reading area, and storage cabinets created from the irregular space of the architectural layout are planned. By pulling open the two sliding doors next to the bedside, they are hidden in between. The main wall wardrobe is primarily light gray, with green used as an accent. The headboard is presented with soft and comfortable green leather.
The second bathroom is spacious and comfortable, with various quartz tiles used for the walls and floor. Wood grain tiles are specifically chosen for the shower area, highlighting the design. The washbasin countertop uses white quartz stone with deep blue lacquered cabinets, exuding a stable and textured feel.
The desk in front of the bookshelf features a multi-directional curved shape, primarily using white lacquer as the main material. Line divisions are used to echo the design elements. The desktop and drawer handles are made of light-colored leather, providing a pleasant touch for the homeowner. After all, isn't design meant to resonate with all five senses?
The bookshelf has a smooth and streamlined design, primarily using white lacquer. The top and bottom sections are storage cabinets with door panels, while the middle section is an open display shelf made of titanium-plated metal. This allows the homeowner, who loves traveling, to showcase the collectibles brought back from around the world. The thin metal plates create a significant visual impact, surprising and appreciating the beauty of craftsmanship at the same time.
At the entrance of the main door, in addition to the curved shoe cabinet, a hidden storage space is planned on the side. This provides ample storage for the homeowner, who enjoys travel and outdoor activities, to meet various storage needs.
For the flooring material in the open area, we selected light gray quartz tiles with a subtle pattern, creating a sense of extension in the space.
Due to the architectural design, this house has resulted in several irregular spaces within the interior layout. We utilized design to transform these spaces into naturally functional areas, such as closets, storage cabinets, bookshelves, and desks. By turning these original flaws into usable spaces, it challenges the designer at every turn.
This is a modern-style residence with a touch of fashion. We focused on free-flowing curves and primarily used white as the main color. Through the combination of various materials and an endless list of details, we ultimately completed this modern and stylish home that satisfies the homeowner.
We look forward to the homeowners continuing their journey and exploring the vast world in this new house, collecting more souvenirs from around the globe.
