Slate is a stone product widely used as a cladding material in architecture and construction. Slate is most commonly used as roofing sheets or tiles due to its durability, natural water resistance, and versatility when cut into individual shapes. Can also be used on interior or exterior floors, for stairs, walkways or wall facades.
The construction site is located on a 17x25m plot at the intersection of two roads, surrounded by densely populated high-rise office buildings and apartments. There is a local market just 50m away.
There is a main entrance on the East side and a secondary entrance on the North side of the building.
The structure of the design focuses on an open concept, with the internal courtyard as the central point. Randomly arranged gray phyllite serves as the main finishing surface of the structure, contrasting with transparent interior elements and teak wood, which completes the inner faces of the four walls. Outdoor wooden flooring with warm tones contrasts with the gray phyllite, separating the functions of the interior and exterior spaces.
The design structure consists of layers. There are four layers in the building, each representing a different space.
The first layer: The courtyard is the core space.
The second layer: All traffic nodes facilitate the flow, connecting the outdoor space (third layer) with the courtyard (first layer).
The third layer: "Hiên" in Vietnamese, a space with a roof structure open to the main functional space. "Hiên" is an outdoor space.
The fourth layer: The innermost space, adjacent to the highest wall, with skylights and awnings.
All finishing materials, from rough construction to the final touches, use locally sourced materials, ensuring ease of construction throughout the process.
