Such vivid and dynamic site, with rich history
and different strong visual languages merged at once, the place has various
adapted layers to it. The concept for Pushkinsky cinema, the “Fragment of time”
is based on unusual contrasting elements, which are surrounded and rooted in
history and place. Located in the center of a busy Moscow, representing pulsing
energy of life, “Fragment of time” is as dynamic and energetic as the city.
Inspired by infinite dialogues that are occurring at the place- relationships
of new and old, historic and modern, loud and quiet, light and dark, layers
became moving force behind the design. On the other hand, layers also are like
skin- a membrane of the building, a trace to what’s happening inside. Cinema is
a unique place where people come to break out from reality and enter the
imaginary, carefully pre constructed world. This idea of film as an intrigue,
inspiration, and illusion is also translated into the façade.
Fundamental ideas of cinematography-action,
movement, transition, and flow were captured and recreated through the dynamic
and evolving form of the exterior surfaces. Smaller details are merging
together to create one united, exciting image. The dialogue of dark and light
is expressed in the materials- an initial element, glass, being wrapped in a
skin of composite metal and concrete plates, which are covering and protecting
graceful and soft surfaces. The glass is like a ray of light, breaking out of
the dark substance and connecting to the urban space. Pushkinsky cinema, the
“Fragment of time” is creating a link between the city scheme and cinema,
uniting, fusing it with its environment and also generating an exciting public
place and a landmark for the future.
