Nowadays, the concept of community into any neighborhood of a city is very hard to find or obtain. Besides the fact that every neighborhood is over populated, it doesn’t offer spaces for gathering. Instead the city offers a lot of residual spaces having different dimensions. This residual space means several unbuilt or unused lots between blocks and houses, needless to mention the unhealthy environment of the surroundings. Our project focuses on one of these lots located close to Titan park in Bucharest. The area was built during the communist period which means that it is composed by eight or ten stories apartment blocks surrounded by green lots.
Our proposal takes into consideration the four human essential elements: air, water, earth and fire. The air is represented through generous spaces and large terraces. The exterior design includes three fountains which bring out the second natural element, water. The presence of a big surface of green justifies the third natural element, earth. Fire is brought in socialization area. The parking area is moved at the underground level because of space and design reasons.
Towards Fizicienilor Street our proposal opens to the rest of the neighborhood through some commercial spaces disposed at ground and semi-basement floors of the main building - which is the closest to the street. This helps for keeping the agglomeration in the Fizicienilor street and away from the project area and also the natural soil slope between nordic and southern limits emphases the calm and comfort of the green spaces proposed around the buildings.
A slope of natural soil is a real leverage in urban planning development for the unbuilt part of our lot. The urban development of the area is based on spaces for socialization and recreation which are meant to develop the way of living.
The volumetric style created onto the facades of our second building not only brings esthetic value, but also represents a way to ensure intimacy among apartments. The project proposes a contemporary type of habitation in flexible apartments which are opened to the exterior through large balconies and terraces. Both buildings are optimized in the matter of construction materials, they have no cable or pipe in plain site because of the esthetic value reason and they are volumetric integrated in the general atmosphere of the entire neighborhood.
The main purpose of our project is to give to the users a general sensation of relaxation, community and integration in the natural landscape, while benefiting from intimacy, mental comfort and physical safety – bring them the genuine feeling of “home”.
