Spacesmith collaborated with FoundRae to transform a 2,300 sf space into a retail experience centered on storytelling and craftsmanship. Expanding on FoundRae’s vision of boutiques inspired by a traditional library, our design elevates the space to the essence of an estate home.
The store’s layout follows a privacy gradient, flowing from public to private. Visitors enter through double doors etched with FoundRae’s symbols into a galley-style foyer lined with custom wall-to-wall walnut display cases. This welcoming space features bespoke credenzas and a gallery wall showcasing art from FoundRae’s creative director, Beth Hutchens.
Beyond the foyer, the great room extends to the rear of the store, maximizing daylight. The space is divided into three areas with distinct functions. The front houses a custom Venetian-inspired floor display and a visible jewelry workshop, where customers can observe artisans engraving, polishing, and finishing pieces.
At the center, campaign furniture wrapped in red wine leather forms a petit living room, anchored by a rug of Hutchens’ own design. Modeled after a music room, it features a baby grand piano adorned with vintage medallions and charms, all hand-applied by the FoundRae team. The perimeter is lined with custom millwork displaying jewelry, books, and ephemera.
Flanking the great room are two intimate spaces: a dining room wrapped in walnut millwork and wallpaper for private events, and a special collections room for personal consultations. The ceiling heights shift throughout, reinforcing the progression from open, public areas to more private and intimate spaces, creating a retail experience that feels both immersive and personal.
