Fortum Transition Tunnel - An immersive and interactive lightart intervention.
Lighting Design Collective (LDC) in collaboration with Kohina Design Agency designed an ambient communication tool for Fortum ́s new headquartes in Espoo, Finland. It acts as a vehicle to transform the mindset of people entering the space, light walks with you as you transition to work or start your journey home.
By stepping in to the tunnel you are led into a ambient immersive space where light patterns express real-time data triggered events such as wind direction in combination with Fortum brand messages . The space also senses your movement as you pass thru and the ever-shifting patterns on the walls and ceiling invite to ”join the change” which is one of Fortums main messages. The Transition Tunnel system is able to pick movement of people passing in it and transform that information to movements of the light patterns across the tunnel walls and ceiling.
The Transition Tunnel is not a screen, it is a spatial experience connecting you with the Fortum vision. With cutting edge technical solution for controls and custom fixtures LDC created this interactive light tunnel that acts as an unique part of their customer journey for both their employees and visitors. The digital content for Transition Tunnel is based on biomimcry algorithms that create ever-changing generative content. The most crucial aspect of the project is that it truly connects cyber space with the physical space in a meaningful and communicating way. The external data (such as real-time weather parameters) are eloquently express in the tunnel. The employees that pass thru the tunnel everyday will notice this and learn how to read and understand the patterns as time goes by. It is not a light show, it is a permanent installation reacting to the time scale of architecture.
Ever-changing. Ambient. Communicating.
