Our concept for the design of the 'Geofort' museum, housed in a former military fortress, is to create visibility for the buildings' different historical layers, both the spatial layers and the layers in the landscape. By selectively choosing which of these layers will be made visible, one can create an interesting and existing environment, a spatial translation of the museums main theme – geography. The sharp lines which used to define the fortresses appearance can be restored, the surrounding landscape made more visible. The new theme – geography – adds a new layer; this new layer will be designed in a both modest an recognisable way, by implementing transparent and modern materials like glass and concrete.
