The Fog Creek office space
was the embodiment of founder and CEO, Joel Spolsky’s vision for the ideal programmer’s
working environment. The program
required four private programmer’s offices and three support workstations along
with common conference, lounge, and kitchenette areas. The space is organized around a series
of blue and green planes that define the private offices. Acrylic partitions fill the voids
around the angled planes to establish privacy. The translucent material allows natural light to enter deep
into the space creating light filled workstations and enhancing the overall
environment. In the private
offices, a window was designed that looked through to the adjacent exterior
window giving the programmer’s eye visual relief and giving each space the
perception of being a corner office.
