We see children flutter around the playground as if they have wings to fly. Other times the children gather in a circle and play the “parachute game”. The children flutter a fabric sheet into the air. The children squeal with laughter as the fabric sheet bobs up and down with the wind beneath it. The children are happy as they play. The Flutter Design Concept uses children’s play as a way to promote health and wellness. The Sunbrella fabrics used in this design are Sunbrella Sling, Sunbrella Strap, and Sunbrella Awning. These fabrics are used as play swings, seats, and canopy shades. The flutter is a unique feature in the design. The roof canopy flutters when the children swing because of a tether attaching the swing to the canopy. The flutter encourages the children to swing more to generate more movement in the roof canopy. The fluttering movements are very similar to the old-time favorite “parachute game” children play. The form of the design consists of light weight steel rings with swings and seating along the perimeter. The children are united and sheltered by the canopy fabric suspended from the ring. As the children swing and play together, the entire system flutters and undulates like a butterfly. Meanwhile the children are exerting energy and benefiting their health.
