The Florist Nontiscordaredime was converted from an old gas station situated on a busy, residential street at the boundaries of the city Reggio Emilia. The original, skinny architecture was transformed into a larger space and still performs its function as a distributor, except instead of fuel, now there are flowers. This commercial area has over time become a social urban environment.
Like all buildings in this climate zone, it needed high-quality waterproofing, thermal insulation, and solar shading. The planning included expansion and repurpose because the station was representative of the architecture of the 1960s. The renovation kept the old function of the space intact while also differentiating it from the addition and preserving the period architecture, as is the norm for other renovations in the field of industrial archeology, and uses archetypal forms such as the column, the pediment, and the box because each element is distinct. The colors are neutral to contrast with the vivid decoration related to the activity of a florist.
The objective, from the outset, was to create a technological and contemporary architecture because of the building’s roadside, retail location.
