1 - DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
THE INITIATIVE FOR THIS PROJECT IS TO PROVIDE AFFORDABILITY, SUSTAINABILITY AND STRUCTURAL DURABILITY FOR THE FLORIDA REGION. THIS DWELLING PROVIDES A FAST AND EFFICIENT CONSTRUCTION PROCESS IN A DISASTER RECOVERY. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE A RESPONSE, A MODULAR DESIGN SOLUTION WAS PROPOSED.
2 – CONCEPT
THE HOUSE IS CUSTOMIZABLE, FLEXIBLE, AND AFFORDABLE. IT IS PROGRAMMATICALLY DESIGNED TO MANY POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS THROUGH DIFFERENT PROPOSED KIT OF PARTS AND MODULES. THE PROPOSED PROCESS OF ADAPTABILITY DEPENDS ON THE INHABITANT’S NEEDS AND CONFORMABILITY.
3 - BUILDING SYSTEM
THE BUILDING CONSISTS OF A PREFABRICATED SYSTEM MADE OF MODULAR COMPONENTS AND ITS SELF-CONSTRUCTION.
THE POSSIBILITY OF COMBINING COMPONENTS INTO VARIED DESIGNS ALLOWS DWELLING CUSTOMIZATION AND THE GENERATION OF URBAN VARIETY. DUE TO SIMPLE CONNECTIONS, THE MODULES CAN BE REPLACEABLE AND RECYCLABLE WITHOUT GREAT EFFORT. THE COMPONENT’S DIMENSIONS ALLOW PORTABILITY AND SELF-CONSTRUCTION IN DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS.
THE STRUCTURAL WALLS, FLOORS, AND TRUSSES CONSIST OF LIGHT GAUGE STEEL FRAMING. THE EXTERIOR FACADE OF THE BUILDING CONSISTS OF A VARIETY OF FINISHES SUCH AS STUCCO, METAL SIDING AND FIBER CEMENT SIDING TO CREATE AN ATTRACTIVE UNIQUE APPEARANCE. THE DECKING IS MADE OF PLASTIC LUMBER WHICH CONTAINS RECYCLED HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE AND THE INTERIOR FLOORING IS MADE OF NATURAL LINOLEUM ON HDF WITH A CORK LAYER THAT IS EASY TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN.
