The design of the Florence Oncology Centre regards the reuse and extension of a 17th century Villa in order to transform it into a highly specialized helathcare Centre that integrates care, training and research. This project stradles the past and the future, a long-ago past and an unknow future, as it is impossible to forsesse what the future research will bring and how treatments needs will evolve as a result. Sustainability and patient cantered design guide the project, from the large-scale to the patient rooms, where the built in furniture ant the attention to detail create a hotel-like atmosphere away from the hospital institutional environment.
