The idea conceived by Milan ’s Politecnico was that of conceiving a nautical research lab of international caliber. This Lab is composed of three entities, including an experimental lab on the University of Lecco ’s camps, and a hi-tech sail boat docked along Lecco ’s waterfront, equipped with real-scale aerodynamic and hydrodynamic measuring tools. Studio FTA was commissioned to design the third and final component: a floating platform with a double function as the mooring dock for the state-of –the-art sailboat and an information and data center for visitors. The concept is characterized by a formal and structural balance with the implementation of experimental and innovative materials derived from the nautical industry. The structure is harmoniously integrated into the context and utilizes climatic strategies that render it energetically sufficient and CO2 free.
