FLOATING MASSES

The project is intended to showcase and be an expression of the profession of clients as building contractors. Using the extremely tight 2000 sft. site with multiple requirements to house their corporate office building and as a canvas to showcase their building skills was the stated design brief.

Use of multiple volumes allowed the flexibility for housing multiple uses. The project arrives as an extremely compactly planned set of spaces, in a shell housing multi-use functions- parking in the semi-basement, a restaurant in the Ground floor and the corporate office in the upper two floors and a terrace for office informal dining while accommodating the stipulations for LEED gold certification.

The form chiseled out of the above requirements gives an expression retaining charm through the natural play of light during the day. At night, the dynamism is furthered with the soft lighting escaping from the interiors, supported with accentuating light strips, delineating the built form further. Strategically positioned stairways isolate users at the entrance, creating an inviting feel which is furthered by the recessed built form at the corner.

The broken masses resulting from the passive architecture planning deploy recessed windows giving a scale breaking into a dialogue with pedestrians along the street edge. The subtle sophisticated expression, with simple detailing in a constrained urban scenario, reveals the width of possibilities in built environments. The minimal feel is furthered with a material palette, deploying the use of exposed concrete with white plaster and glass.

The opening out of balconies at different levels, creates a sculpted form, which opens the interior built environment visually to a neighboring pocket park, creating a lively interaction with the urban setting.
