Milkscape : The Interpretation of Creaminess
The approach of the atmosphere, concept and form for this medium-sized cafe is inspired by the layers and texture of milk in Flat white coffee. We have expressed and translated the feeling of smoothness and fluidity of milk through the organic curve forms that flows all around the interior space. The ceiling and all horizontal planes are layered in topography to show the layers that create the smoothness in milk and cream, a very milky landscape. Whereas with vertical planes the curve form is completely smooth and expressed the fluidity and movement of the swirling milk. All this organic forms and details brings the cafe customer close to the layers of milk in a whole new perspective while enjoying their cup of flat white.
The main floating staircase takes the customer upstairs while each steps and landings were created from multiple layers of wood and white quartz stone, leading the customer to feel like they are climbing up and be in between the milk layers. The concept of horizontal layers is also carried to the exterior facade design. The depth and the frequency of the horizontal stainless steel fins provide privacy to all the floors of the building. For area which needs the openness, the horizontal fins shifts vertically, making big opening for the main cafe entrance.
