This client called in Breanna Carlson’s design eye to reimagine their Flatiron Through Loft in order to best accommodate their growing family. The goal was to achieve a space that could effortlessly balance a home office and a family of four. The client wanted to incorporate more of their Indian heritage throughout the home as family was at the heart of this home renovation.
In order to strike this careful balance, the walls enclosing the kitchen were removed to eliminate visual barriers along the corridor leading to the family room. Finding more opportunities for communal spaces was a priority to make it feel like a family oriented home. In this same vein, the family room was transformed to also serve as an office.
With a focus on seamless, accessible storage--a closet was transformed into bookcases, and cabinets. Built-in window seats were scattered throughout the whole loft which also serve as clean and integrated storage for toys and other items. The second home office with en suite powder room is located apart from the living, dining and family areas creating a self-contained space for focused work within the home.
Indian-inspired patterns, tiles, and a vibrant color palette used throughout the loft reflect the family’s Indian heritage and push the renovation beyond structural changes to fully embody the life and personality of the loft’s inhabitants. The brass chandeliers at the entrance hall and the grilles were custom designed by the bSTUDIO principal Breanna Carlson.
