FlashFly is a multi-seasonal ski ramp that is intertwined with three skyscrapers in New York City. Skiing at night among skyscrapers gives New Yorkers a flash way to experience height, speed, darkness and coldness. FlashFly not only fits the 24-hour nature of New York, it is also a sustainable alternative for skiers. Instead of spending resources on driving, lifting and accommodation, FlashFly takes advantage of the subway, the elevators that are not in use at night and the hotel located in the same building.
To offer the same excitement of night skiing to everyone, the ramp has various difficulty levels. Skiers can take the elevators to arrive at their prefer slope and twist. The major turn of the ramp also lands itself into the supporting buildings at four different locations. Those landings become sky stations for skiers and spectators to meet and refresh. After a day of sunlight exposure, the phosphorescent ramp also glows at night to give skiers a “Tron” racing experience. Like Times Square, FlashFly will light up as a futuristic icon New York City. Unlike Times Square, FlashFly gives everyone a reason to work out on a cold winter night.
