Fine Spot in the Borek Water Tower
Fine Spot in the Borek Water Tower – history in a modern edition
The Borek Water Tower in Wrocław, built at the beginning of the 20th century according to the design of Karl Klimm, has gained a new function as Fine Spot – a place where architectural heritage meets wine culture and contemporary design. The interior was designed by mode:lina™ architects, who created a space that balances rawness with elegance while respecting the historic structure of the building.
A space rooted in history.
The tower’s original function, once crucial for the city’s water supply system, became the inspiration for the interior concept. The raw brick structure, original clinker flooring, and a handcrafted steel gate with a water motif create a cohesive architectural narrative in which the past blends seamlessly with the present.
“Fine Spot is a place where guests can discover the flavors of wine and cuisine in a space that not only tells a story but also creates new experiences,” says Anita Lupa, author of the project.
We wanted to preserve the character of the place while giving it a new identity that resonates with its history. The tower itself suggested the solutions – its raw structure became the starting point for shaping the interior,” says Paweł Garus, architect at mode:lina™
The central feature of the space is a bar with an open kitchen, whose layout reflects the building’s octagonal geometry. Subtle portal lighting guides guests to the tasting areas, where various seating arrangements encourage both intimate gatherings and larger events.
Materials and light in dialogue with architecture
The atmosphere of the interior is shaped by the interplay between rawness and subtlety.
Textured wall surfaces form a backdrop for the intense color of brick and glass, while steel accents, inspired by the building’s original elements, intertwine with wooden details. Furniture with soft, rounded forms balances the industrial character of the space, and their fabrics reference the natural palette of materials.
Modernity in a historic context
Fine Spot in the Borek Water Tower is an example of a harmonious adaptation of historic architecture to contemporary gastronomic functions. Rawness intertwines here with elegance, and the building’s architectural heritage becomes an integral part of the culinary experience. This space redefines the relationship between history and modernity, offering guests not only unique flavors but also an authentic setting that emphasizes the distinctive character of the place.
