Istanbul Tactility
Figg is a women’s shoe brand inspired by Istanbul, placing craftsmanship at its core and reinterpreting the traditional çarık form through a contemporary lens.
The brand’s first physical store was designed in Kuruçeşme, within a compact footprint of 13 m². A ceiling height of over 4 meters and a prominent corner location within the building block lend the space a volumetric perception far beyond its actual size.
The limited floor area necessitated the development of vertical storage solutions. In response, a gridded open shelving system was designed, extending all the way to the ceiling. This structure functions both as a display unit and as a spatial device that maximizes verticality. A metal ladder running on rails was integrated to provide access to the upper storage sections.
To make the interior materials and textures visible from the street and to establish a fluid connection between inside and outside, the storefront was designed with large, minimal glazing. In this way, the entire interior becomes legible as a display window. The dark navy tone used for the façade joinery draws inspiration from the Bosphorus and defines the brand’s visual identity.
Interior details such as mosaic tile flooring, vaulted concrete ceiling (volta), hand-finished plaster surfaces, and gold-leaf glass lettering evoke the textures and artisanal spirit of historic Istanbul residences and shops—serving as curated references that root the space in its local context.
