Fierce Whiskers Distillery celebrates the science and craft of premium whiskey making in Texas. Developed on a greenfield site, the Distillery includes a production facility, Rickhouse, tasting room, outdoor patio and great lawn, creating the interplay of indoor and outdoor spaces with opportunities for visitors to connect with each other and the Fierce Whiskers' team in a convivial atmosphere. The facility itself is split into two, distinct halves. The Distillery building, equipped with milling, cooking, fermenting, and distilling production operations, is on full display for visitors to experience. The Rickhouse building is the first of its kind in Texas, designed specifically for the Texas climate. Dark but porous, each level offers glimpses to the four-stories of barrels aging inside. These two halves are linked by a steel barrel rail so distilled product can be rolled from the warehouse into storage. Patrons have visibility to the entire process from Fierce Whiskers' Tasting Room, via large overhead doors that connect back-of-house and front-of-house spaces to the outdoors. Blending raw and refined, the Distillery was designed to be as rational and rigorous as the distilling process itself: linear, modular, and representative of the products journey from
raw ingredients to refined spirits. Sustainable strategies prioritized preservation of all existing trees on site. Solar panels cover the south-facing leaf of the Distillery’s gable roof, using sunlight to power the entire facility throughout their production cycle. Large, overhead doors in the Distillery building allow for natural airflow when appropriate, and the Rickhouse is sited to take full advantage of prevailing winds. Louvers on the east and west elevations of the Rickhouse, are outfitted with wind and temperature sensors – furthering the structure’s ability to naturally ventilate. A 14,600 SF catchment area allows the facility to collect large amounts of rainwater which is reused for site irrigation.
