ALTE FEUERWEHR WIENER NEUDORFSTUDENT COMPETITION - 2ND PLACETransformation of an old fire station into a music centreCONCEPTCONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO RIVER BANKS – through a bridge, which at the same time serves as an museum entrance - and through the big windows of existing structure, which offer sight connection between both sides of the village squareCENTRAL POINT OF VILLAGE SQUARE – the old fire station building was according to its layout orientated too much to the north, the new music centre should be positioned along the river without preferring any river bank - also the place for the grandstand is positioned in the way to be seen from both sidesCLONING THE EXISTING STRUCTURE – one unit of the old structure is once to the left and thirteen times to the right copied, curved along the stream and completed with a corridor volumeINDUSTRIAL SHED ROOF – the roof reflects the industrial history of the village and also the roof type of most houses around the village square - the shed roof has south-north orientation, i.e. the same one as the plots aroundMUSEUM AND MUSIC – the music centre is devided into 2 parts, on the western side there is a museum, on the eastern side there are spaces for music making, in between a foyer is located - both volumes are just the same, they are of the same importanceALMOST NO OPENINGS – openings in the façade are minimized in order to show the whole volume, the exception are necessary openings like garage door and the existing structureMATERIALS – the façade is cladded with stainless steel boards – the volumes seems light, fragile, like from paper and at the same time they are in accordance with surroundings, which is slightly reflected on the façade - the garage door etc. is made of the same material, the skylights and big glass windows are provided with jalousieOPENING TIMES OPEN, OTHERWISE CLOSED – when the music centre is closed, all of the openings are closed as well (jalousie) in order to make the two main volumes look like absolutely the sameGREEN ALL AROUND – there is a grass all around the music centre, it fills up a void without grass, which has been there before - for garage exit and the places for stalls and grandstand lawn gridtiles are usedMUSIC FESTIVAL – the big music room opens towards east – grandstand has 300 places – stalls are cubes, have light structure und should be covered with canvas or textile – they should also have the fragile look like the façade, just with the difference, that they are and should seem temporary
