Transformation of typical 70's office building (design Abe Bonnema) into 16 unique apartments (local heritage site).
In the city centre of Leeuwarden, a former office building designed by Abe Bonnema for Friesland Bank Assurantiën has been converted by BSa into a residential building with a wide variety of apartments. All apartments have an outdoor area. This has been achieved by adding balconies but also by making smart use of existing building components, such as the canopy, concrete and brick planters and the part of the underground car park protruding under the sidewalk of the building. In the center of FBA state, the sanitary groups of the former office have been cut away, and now becomes a narrow void over seven floors for social interaction. BSa has designed the common areas with enamelled red glass walls. Graphics finishes and furniture are inspired on the work of Wim Crouwel and Kho Liang Ie, who contributed to the original building.
