A weekend house has to include nature, RS believes, otherwise what’s the point of getting away from the city? This is a house of amazingly minimal enclosure. Of the conventional living-dining-bedroom-toilets combination, the only ones that remain enclosed here are the bedrooms and toilet facilities – all other activities take place on terraces in the midst of nature, some covered, some open to sky.
The limited materials used show a conscious attempt to fit into the local environment, which is rural Konkan. The building elements are timber ,brick walls with white washed stucco plaster(in lieu of mud plaster used by local villagers) and mangalore tiles.
