Reconstruction
and extension of an ordinary family house in a traditional town
residential area of family houses in Brno, Czech Republic. It is an
L-shaped, one-floor building with an attic room facing the street.
The
house is built
on a "checkerboard" plot, which means that the garden and
the house plot only neighbour at corners and are connected by a short
diagonal staircase. This feature has determined the entry to the
house: the existing alley between houses is widened and is used as
the main access to the property. It is slightly diagonally rotated to
lead to the centre of the residential backyard. The alley further
shaped in a way inviting to some natural stops: at the entrance of
the house, in the backyard, on the terrace by a terrain break and at
the existing entry to the garden. The
house is a combination of wooden and classic masonry finished by
larch boards cladding. The pent roof slopes towards the street
allowing the attic room overlooking the garden. The living room
orientated southwest is connected with the residential backyard by a
large window to let the outdoors flow in.
