This practice, designed for a dentist couple, features a carefully planned layout comprising of three consultation rooms, a laboratory, a pantry, and a welcoming reception area on a compact floor plate of 780sqft.
Strategically positioned along the street, the dental workspaces being the most used spaces, capitalize on the abundance of natural light. The design balances light infiltration and privacy through the introduction of screens. By varying the density of this screen, natural light is allowed to penetrate deep into the interior while preserving the necessary confidentiality for patients.
To maintain openness throughout the limited floor space, all partition walls are restricted to a height of 6½ feet, fostering communication and a sense of connection between spaces; while also further allowing the influx of natural light.
The design language of the project takes from a triangular motif, reflected in multiple elements throughout the practice. From the screen that separates the clinic from the reception to the flooring pattern and the custom designed legs of the waiting benches, this motif subtly resonates across the space. The incorporation of wooden finishes imparts a sense of comfort, softening the typically sterile environment of clinical spaces.
Working within a constrained budget, cost-effective strategies that do not compromise on the aesthetic i.e. screens built out of simple plywood and polished and partition walls built of hollow cement blocks with paint were adopted.
The well-conceived layout facilitates the smooth flow of patients, tucking service areas away from the main circulation path. This design approach not only enhances functionality but also creates a serene and inviting environment for patients and practitioners alike.
