During 2008,
heritage-listed factories forming part of the former Phönix-Werke industrial complex in Hamburg-Harburg were comprehensively renovated and
newly fitted to create exhibition and storage space for the extensive private collection of businessman
Harald Falckenberg.
A central stair
cascade forms the principal spatial intervention, allowing the entirety of the
collection to unfurl through 6200m2 across 5 floors. Depot spaces,
exhibitions and the permanent collection exist side by side, each accorded equal respect.
