Fakeeh University Hospital – A New Language for Healthcare Design
RSP transformed the traditional clinical corridor into an experience that feels human, calming, and restorative. By moving away from cold, institutional environments, the design introduces a hospitality-inspired approach that reshapes how patients experience healthcare. Natural materials, open layouts, and integrated greenery create a setting that feels warm and welcoming—supporting both emotional comfort and physical healing.

The Interiors
Soft, nature-led tones, timber panelling, and planted elements create a strong biophilic connection, allowing the interiors to feel closer to a boutique hotel than a hospital. Curved forms are layered with linear details to gently guide movement and encourage intuitive wayfinding. Strategically positioned seating zones with upholstered chairs and tactile fabrics provide moments of rest, while greenery introduces freshness and vitality throughout. The result is a soothing environment that reassures, supports recovery, and elevates the entire patient experience.
The Lobby
The lobby material palette was curated to feel warm, refined, and welcoming. A vertical timber screen introduces rhythm and texture, complementing oak-effect flooring that grounds the space in natural tones. Sculptural ceiling elements and fluid architectural forms create visual interest and movement. Healing pods, nature-inspired textures, and soft, diffused lighting complete the experience—cultivating an atmosphere of tranquillity, renewal, and care.
The Core Atrium
At the heart of the hospital lies a serene indoor sanctuary. Natural materials and soft finishes establish a calming backdrop, centred around a living tree surrounded by tiered, organic seating. This green focal point reinforces a sense of connection to nature and offers a moment of pause within the clinical environment.
Curved lounge seating, tactile materials, and a residential-style composition make the space feel comforting and familiar. Above, a sculptural light installation adds a contemporary focal point and a sense of gentle movement.
The material palette balances warmth with modern elegance. Bronze floor trims add subtle refinement, paired with wood-effect porcelain flooring for continuity. Patterned blue porcelain tiles introduce softness and rhythm, while carefully selected furnishings—grey leather armchairs with warm accent cushions and a deep grey sofa with soft blue tones—echo the atrium’s nature-inspired narrative.
Unlike traditional waiting areas, the atrium is conceived as a space for restoration and reflection, placing wellbeing at the centre of the design philosophy.
The Boardroom
The boardroom reflects a composed and elegant character. Rich timber flooring grounds the space, while contrasting marble surfaces—ranging from soft white to deeper veined tones—add visual depth. Brass accents introduce a subtle layer of luxury, balancing modern restraint with classic detail. A patterned carpet softens the space acoustically, creating an environment suited to leadership, focus, and collaboration.
By blending healthcare with hospitality, Fakeeh University Hospital establishes a new standard for wellness-led environments—where design, comfort, and care come together seamlessly.
