The Facebook “Creator’s Lounge” at the 2017 VIDCON Conference was all about providing an environment for “creators” to get away from the mayhem of the overall event, and have a space to chill out and produce their original content.
The challenge for us was to create an oasis capable of transporting people to another world. The essence of the space was inspired by the vibe of Parker Palm Springs. We went as far as bringing in real palm trees, boxwood hedges, fire pits, pergolas, and mid mod furniture sprinkled in small knocks to get the essence of the place right.
We learn so much with this type of installation that informs our architecture practice. Frankly there is something liberating about the compressed time frames we are put into. There is a real need for us to quickly iterate creative concept designs, create moodboards, drawings, renderings, that can tell a story that is “on brand”. Once we get the green light to move forward it’s just as intense a schedule to fabricate and install everything, in this case it was 48 hour installation!
As always we believe handle every detail from the graphics package, interior selections, down to the type of plants, and books in the tree houses, no part of the story is left untold in the space.
