BACK TO THE AVANT-GUARD
Pushkinskaya square at all times represents the most progressive and
vanguard – main poet, pioneering soviet masterpiece, first cinema
theater of new type, movie premieres, even first McDonalds nearby.
Respect for the context bring us to use design language of Russian
Avantguard.
Buildings of the square are already used as informational screens –
there are huge advertising letters on elevations: “IZVESTIA”,
“ROSSIA”, “PUSHKINSKIY”, “NOKIA” etc.
According to this tradition we propose to turn facade into the
digital screen which works as open air cinema, demonstrates movie
trailers and translates events of Moscow cinema festival.
DEMOCRATIC SPACE
Moscow public space should be more people friendly and democratic.
Our proposal lets people to use this space more freely – each
person or group has their own bench, fountain and even screen.
REMOVING THE BOUNDARIES
The slope is constructed above the square, it leads to the entrance
of the theater. It is pedestrian zone with lawns, fountains, benches
and a pavement all made of DuPont Corian.
Place under the slope is an extension of theater lobby, it contains
commercial spaces such as cafe, cinema museum, shops.
15 minutes of fame to everyone!
Red wedge of the slope reduces scale of facade to the scale of a
visitor.
Each
person coming to the theater can feel
himself as a movie star on the red carpet runner of the film
festival.
Continuing the boulevard
Theater building is situated across the boulevard, thus it forms the
grand square, but at the same time blocks pedestrian ways of the
boulevard.
Our design proposes to solve this: ramp continues behind theater as a
pedestrian bridge, so people can walk from square to the boulevard.
Facade becomes a seamless part of the square, and square becomes part
of Moscow boulevard system.
