EZ4 is a multifamily housing project, located north of the city of Merida in the state of Yucatan in a regular field 16 meters wide by 39 meters deep that has 4 separate living units, interconnected spatially in a complex.
The project is a linear scheme interpreted in a body disposed along the ground, of which emerge four solid volumes that delimit and clearly mark the individuality of each housing module within the set, which generate the feeling of floating due a game of different elements, are also responsible for giving movement, light and protection to these volumes, which in turn are separated by a series of vertical elements working as containers blocks responsible for accommodating the housing services, these are located west strategically to create a thermal barrier that insulates heat and in turn gives privacy to the living areas.
The social area of each of these opens fully to a small garden, giving spaciousness, light and amplitude to the space, which ends in an existing wall to the project made of stone masonry in the region, an element that is taken into consideration when designing the interiors of homes proposing the divider wall between the exterior and interior stone (native to the region), creating a warm and comfortable interior environment.
The facade of the whole complex was worked responding to the west orientation of the lot, so given a totally blind treatment, being composed of a large white volume to which subtracts a vacuum of light and shadow. This volume also is intersected by an overlying metallic element, which breaks the monotony and clearly marks the vehicular and pedestrian access.
The game of heights, volumes and elements give results in a very interesting facade which contrasts between light and shadow, solids and voids, arranged in a perfect harmony that give character and unity to the whole project.
