The new extension is situated North-East to the existing building. The long-stretched, one-storied building is partly embedded into the slope. Due to the green roof of the extension the garden area got an even surface for the first time. The open South-facade allows just the right amount of air and light, a massive canopy prevents overheating. Dome-shaped skylights let additional light into the building. Consequently even the areas which are situated directly behind the existing building, like the bathroom and the workshop, get natural light. The ground floor of the existing building was adapted in order to connect the old and the new part. The entrance, the toilet and the bathroom were rearranged. The new bathroom and the toilet are now located in the center of the extension. The back exit’s staircase leads to the green roof, more specifically the newly created garden area that is located at the intersection of the family area and the privacy of the parents. Both “adult-children’s rooms” are combined to a larger room but may be visually separated with a curtain. The terrace ends just before the parents’ room meeting their need for comfort and privacy. The built and lived state of the building proofs that the extension isn’t just an addition to the building, but creates a completely new ensemble that has led to a totally new way of occupying the building, the terrace and the garden.
