STATUS
Built
YEAR
2003
SIZE
1000 sqft - 3000 sqft
The barn, an old wooden structure solidly built to provide a basis for an old liquor distillery, was to be remodelled in to two units, a loft to live and space to work in. The simple volume of the old barn is heritage of the heydays of these regions’ economy. The archetype roof form is a reference to the old use of the barn. The built interventions are held as minimal as possible, in order to preserve the old structure in space and character as entirely as possible. All the new interior changes are in the same colour as the new concrete floors which evokes a sheltered feeling. A simple and unobtrusive design philosophy guarantees a perfect reinterpretation of the old structure and defines a new spatial dialogue within the new context of light. The façade is painted in black tar paint and frames the new silver windows, which become eyes looking out from the inside.
