This project I made in the 9th semester during my fifth year at the university. Its plot is a really special place in the heart of the city. The whole neighborhood is a meeting of buildings which are historical, religious and architectural treasures. That is why the concept of the exhibition centre was to be a part of the unimportant surroundings, making it almost invisible as a background of this splendid atmosphere. Almost the whole building is designed to be under the ground. Above the surface of the square is only one triangle pyramid. In this case the active fifth façade represents the roof and it is a part of the whole square. The project is a composition of triangles, whereby every one of these triangles is moveable, making the roof absolutely dynamic. The movement of the roof depends on the sun shining and is regulated by a mechanism. The idea is that the natural sunlight in the exhibition hall could be fully controlled and used at the most, not only for lightening the hall but also for heating it. The building has two underground levels and one ground level. On the ground level is the common space for the gallery, which is organized in three terraces and is connected thought a small atrium with the -1 level, where there is also place for exhibiting. There is a public parking lot on the -2 level. It has two independent entrances – for cars and for pedestrians. The building is situated in the centre of the city so the parking lot beneath can be used not only by visitors of the gallery. The building has a mixed structure. The underground levels are designed with a concrete construction and the upper level is with metal pillars. The roof has double structure – the first layer is glass and the second one is the metal triangles. The triangles are made of very thin sheets of natural stone on an aluminum construction.
