The headquarters expansion design aims to create additional office space just the same as to integrate new spaces. Attention was paid to promoting social interaction both within the company and with its customers. The designs compact cubature of a two-story structure along the street side, docks onto the existing structure at two points, integrating it into the overall concept by framing a centrally located atrium for communication. Reception, meeting rooms, a canteen and a multifunctional event room are located on the ground floor. The public area is characterized by a spatial concept with flexible usage options and complemented by sheltered outdoor areas that create i.e. a quality to linger. The upper floor accommodates modern office spaces grouped around the atrium, which provide intuitive orientation through visual connections. The construction of the new building is based on a clearly structured timber skeleton structure that ensures future flexibility. Inside, a locally sourced rammed clay core addresses functional, aesthetic and social requirements. It accommodates access and service areas and enhances the spatial quality with features such as a seating niche, a tea kitchen and areas for retreat. It serves as a full-surface thermal and climatic regulator, due to an innovative energy concept with component activation, by storing and releasing heat, coolness and moisture. Slats between timber beams, ceiling and wall ensure climate control in the surrounding open areas. Heating and cooling energy is provided via 11 additional deep boreholes. The distinctive choice of materials anchors the building within its context and establishes the architecture`s identity as a whole. The roof surface is completely covered with photovoltaic modules, covering the electrical energy to operate the building. It already has a positive carbon footprint during the construction phase, was certified with the highest rating of 1000/1000 points according to the Climate Active Gold Standard.
