PennDesign MArch 700 Level design studio projectInstructor: Marion Weiss and Michael ManfrediExpanding Edge focused on the transition of varied surfaces from stretched and taut to compressed and gathered, and how those transformations would support a diverse landscape at Hunters Point South.Distinct parameters at the East River and Newtown Creek provide a framework to develop two distinct edge conditions. The East River side is a hard revetment edge to protect against the strong tidal current, while the Newtown Creek edge holds soft remediative wetlands. Th e overall master plan is organized by particular view corridors out to Manhattan and back into Queens and Brooklyn.A parametric module system transforms from smooth to sinuous, and from surficial to structural which allows for a range of landscape and architectural potentials. These modules operate at various scales and ultimately support landscape and building programs.
