EXOK Games partnered with RSAAW to translate the joy of 8-bit video game-making into
a workplace.
The Main feature of the office is the cylindrical entry that greets arrivals with a playful
cutout of the EXOK logo. Within the office space this cylinder is cut open to function as
a round social booth. This central element acts as a privacy screen from the entry to the
open office, and gently choreographs circulation, as moving around its curved wall
reveals the colourful work zones step by step, reinforcing a theme of discovery drawn
from the studio’s colourful, and award-winning video game, ‘Celeste’.
Programmed “neighbourhoods” are defined through distinct colour pops and tailored
materiality. A vibrant colour palette referencing, ‘Celeste’ and off-axis geometries
extend the brand through the interior. Warm, and resilient, wood flooring in the main
workspace tempers the saturated wall colours, lending a relaxed, home-like
atmosphere.
Open-plan work areas support cross-team collaboration. The layout is predicated on
flexibility using modular furnishings that enable quick reconfigurations between
projects to prioritize team engagement over temporary “hot-desking”.
Breakout lounges, acoustic pods, and communal tables create interactive zones that
punctuate the plan. A dedicated gaming room serves as a testing space, and group
space for release gatherings and team wind-downs, while an acoustic panelled,
upholstered video-call booth, with built-in desk, and natural light provides an intimate,
and quiet focus zone. The yellow-coded creative corner emphasises collaboration. Full-
height glass whiteboards invite sketching at scale, while tilting stools bring a light,
kinetic quality to working sessions.
Within the workspace adjustable lighting and seating promote personalization for
comfort and wellness. Movable blocks and storage components can be grouped and
reconfigured as projects evolve to incorporate more utility for team members.
Custom millwork keeps the space playful and functional. Hidden nooks, a rolling
tambour door, and colourful surfaces add small moments of delight. The kitchen is
finished in warm tones and provides generous counter space with integrated millwork
for organised storage.
RSAAW’s design created a consistent vocabulary of colour, texture, and form that ties
these elements into a cohesive whole as a functional, and adaptable, studio that
reflects EXOK’s culture and supports experimentation, collaboration, and the craft of
game development.
