In today's fast-paced world, the role of physical interactions in banking and other services cannot be overlooked, especially for older generations. Tasks like purchasing a house or getting a loan are often easier to accomplish in person, highlighting the importance of physical bank visits for some customers. However, as workplaces evolve, the concept of assigned desks and single-use spaces is being replaced by experience-based settings. This shift is evident in the financial services sector, where highly flexible, multi-modal work zones coexist with quiet work settings for focused work.
Designing Banks for the Future
The Export-Import Bank of India's new office stands as a beacon of modernity and sustainability in the bustling capital city of Delhi. Designed to accommodate a growing staff capacity, the office embodies a ‘no barrier’ concept, maximising open spaces and embracing the idea of ‘co-working’ to its fullest potential. From its inception, sustainability has been at the forefront, with all materials selected for their green credentials and minimal carbon footprint. Vibrant colours, efficient working spaces, and a strategic location in East Kidwai Nagar make this office a shining example of environmental and social sustainability.
Split into three parts with a total area of approximately 39,000 sqft, the office welcomes visitors into a central reception area flanked by executive lounges and meeting rooms, each designed in themes inspired by different Indian states. The boardroom is a standout feature, boasting a 15-meter diameter ring light and a large circular table seating up to 25 people. The terrace garden, accessible from the boardroom, serves as a versatile space for office members to unwind.
Innovative Work Pool Area and Environmental Sustainability
The office's work pool area is a pioneer in lighting design, with each workstation featuring smart DISC lighting, giving each individual their unique identity in the large office environment. Vibrant carpet flooring adds character to the space, with colours chosen to differentiate between travelling paths and working areas. A central WELL for discussion encourages informal gatherings and enhances transparency in the workplace. The office is entirely planned as an open working space, maximising natural light even in a centrally air-conditioned building. To minimise its environmental impact, the office incorporates several green features. The base building's HVAC equipment and air conditioners are free from ozone-depleting substances. An efficient artificial lighting system has reduced lighting power density by 64% over the base case. Low-flow fixtures and a building management system further reduce water consumption and energy usage. The office promotes occupant health and well-being with dedicated spaces for workouts and socialising. Waste segregation facilities and e-waste collection points are provided. These initiatives benefit the environment and enhance the overall work experience for employees.
